Irish marine update: Responsible Irish Fish label

Irish retailer supports the Irish fishing community as it becomes the first to adopt the Responsible Irish Fish Label.

Increasingly, retailers and consumers are keen to reflect sustainability and environmental awareness in their decision to purchase certain produce. The SuperValu chain of stores is the first Irish supermarket in Ireland to adopt the new Responsible Irish Fish (RIF) Label – a scheme that encourages and rewards responsible fishing by Irish vessels. As Ireland’s largest grocery and food distributor this announcement strongly signals the significance of practices that demonstrate responsible use of the oceans. As part of the RIF Label vessel owners can achieve certification for their fish/shellfish, develop a brand to allow Irish fishermen to differentiate their products in the market place, and promote Irish fish caught in a responsible manner.
