ARAMARK Ireland supports local Fishermen with new partnership

September 2012, ARAMARK Ireland today launched their support of Irish Fishermen by promoting the new Responsible Irish Fish label across its Food Services division. The scheme ties in with ARAMARK’s monthly Health & Wellness campaign, which in September sees a focus on the importance of Omega oils.

The new label for fish and shellfish has been introduced to ensure Irish fisherman can promote their products as 100% Irish in the marketplace, with all products bearing the RIF logo fully traceable to an Irish vessel. Purchasing RIF labelled product will help maintain jobs in the Irish fishing fleet and create jobs in the Irish seafood processing sector.

The label is only available to producers who source fish from Irish vessels which are part of the Responsible Irish Fish Association, giving consumer’s confidence in the origins of the seafood they are eating and reassuring them that it was caught responsibly.

David McLelland, Purchasing Manager at ARAMARK said: “As part of our Corporate Responsibility approach, we aim to source the most sustainable food products available for our customers. As we spend over €40m, per annum on locally sourced produce, we encourage and support local suppliers acting in a responsible and sustainable manner and our partnership with Responsible Irish Fish reflects this ethos. We believe this scheme will protect and develop the fishing industry in Ireland and we know that our customers are keen to buy Irish seafood whenever possible. This scheme will provide them with the quality and assurance they want.”

Speaking on behalf of Responsible Irish Fish, Frank Fleming said: “Businesses like ARAMARK Ireland are very important to the Irish fishing industry and we are delighted that they are working with us to give their customer’s access to Irish seafood. This initiative supports Irish jobs and encourages responsible practices in our industry.”

Grainne Kelliher, VP Food services added “We are passionate about quality Irish produce as we believe this is an integral part of our food offer to our customers and clients. Supporting local fisherman through the Responsible Fish label, demonstrates our commitment to sustainability and sourcing fresh local Irish produce.”
